We are going to learn together in this book about the history of St. Mary’s
County after Maryland became a state in a new nation. We will learn about events
that affected the country and the world like the Civil War and the World Wars.
We will also learn about things that happened just here in the county. St. Mary’s
County has changed a great deal since the 1800’s. Maybe members of your family
have been here since then, or maybe you and your family have just moved here -
either way, there is plenty of exciting history for us to study.
